Tips For Finding A Lawyer Using Google

People in need of a lawyer often turn to Google or a similar browser to search. Unfortunately, the search results are frequently not helpful and lead to making repeated phone calls to lawyers who do not handle the type of case the person has. I handle personal injury cases but frequently receive calls from people needing other types of lawyers. They call based upon the search results. There are several reasons for this. Many lawyers advertise on the internet through Google and other search engines that sell clicks on ads. The search engines make money when you click on a lawyer ad, whether or not it will be helpful to you.  Therefore, clicking on ad for a trust lawyer when you need a personal injury lawyer helps neither you or the lawyer, but does help the search engine that sold a click. Searches like “lawyers near me” are very popular and are encouraged by search engines, but can result in many fruitless calls to lawyers in areas of practice different from your need. You can avoid this frustration by including terms in your search based upon what you need, for example “personal injury”, “landlord/tenant”, “trusts and estates”, or “criminal.”  The more detail about what you need in the search the better. Then scroll down past the ads on the top that are selling clicks and look at the organic search results. Hopefully these will be lawyers identified based upon their ability to help you.
